Sevilla's Juande Ramos has denied that he will be parachuted into the Tottenham Hotspur manager's job.
The Spanish tactician, who has guided his La Liga charges to consecutive Uefa Cup triumphs, admitted that he was in the same hotel as White Hart Lane officials over the weekend but denied discussing a move to north London.
"When we play an important game like this [tonight's Spanish Super Cup match], news of this kind always comes out," he said.
"I was in the hotel because a friend came who had nothing to do with football."
Speculation over the future of Spurs' current boss Martin Jol has intensified over the weekend despite an emphatic 4-0 win over Derby.
Reports in the Spanish media claim a large English delegation descended on the capital to secure his successor.
Although a Tottenham spokesperson claimed that club secretary John Alexander was in the city for a "private meeting" with Ramos' agent Alvaro Torres, she was unable to account for the presence of vice-chairman Paul Kemsley and Ramos himself at the same discussion.
"We are not in negotiations with anybody with respect to replacing Martin Jol," she concluded.
However rumours persist that Jol's relationship with chairman Daniel Levy has deteriorated to such an extent that Levy may attempt to oust the Dutchman from his job before this Sunday's game against Manchester United.
