India had a lucky escape in the third match of the DLF Cup as rain denied Australia an in-the-bag victory at the Kinrara Oval.
The one-day triangular tournament, which also features the West Indians, looked set for a thrilling third match after the Australians could only muster 244-10 in 49.2 overs.
Shane Watson bludgeoned his way to a fortunate 79 from 118 balls, with Michael Clarke's 64 from 101 balls also providing the bulk of the Australian innings.
Apart from those two the innings was dominated by an impressive bowling attack, with two wickets apiece for Harbhajan Singh and Ajit Agarkar and Munaf Patel taking 3-53.
With a required run-rate of just under six an over, everyone was looking forward to the duel between Sachin Tendulkar and Glenn McGrath.
Instead what they got was a devastating performance by Mitchell Johnson, who in just four overs ripped through India's top order.
Tendulkar fell for 12, Rahul Dravid was out for six, Irfan Pathan at three fell for a golden duck and Yuvrag Singh lasted just five balls longer for another duck, leaving Johnson with figures of 4-11.
With Virender Sehwag run out after having made just eight, India were in dire straits on 35-5 when the heavens opened, leaving the Australians powerless to see through a well-earned victory.
