Mcllroy storming to maiden European Tour triumph

Rory Mcllroy looking to lift his first European Tour title
Rory Mcllroy continued his fine form at the Omega European Masters to forge to a four shot lead heading into the final round of the tournament.

The 19-year-old carded a third round four-under-par 66 at Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland, to finish the round on 13-under-par.

Mcllroy got his round off today in brilliant form as he thundered his approach shot on the first hole to within three feet of the pin. He went onto hole the putt to secure an eagled in the opening hole. The Northern Ireland youngster added a further six birdies in the round, which was only spoilt by three bogeys.

If Mcllroy was to clinch the title tomorrow, then not only would it be his first European Tour triumph, but he would become the third youngest player to win a tournament.

"This is my first time in this situation and I'm just really looking forward to tomorrow (Sunday)," said McIlroy.

"I don't want to take my foot off the pedal - I've a four-shot lead and I'd like a six-shot lead tomorrow. Trying to make birdies is the way I play my best. It would be fantastic to win."

A group of six players, including England's Robert Dinwiddi, are together at second place on nine-under-par. Joint overnight leader and defending champion Brett Rumford, meanwhile, suffered a poor round of two-over-par 73 and is now on six-under-par.
