Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has joined Preston North End on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old is Darren Ferguson's first signing as Preston boss and is set to go straight into the squad to face the manager's old side Peterborough on Tuesday night.
Welbeck, who signed a four-year extension to his United contract in December 2009, is highly rated at Old Trafford. He has been given the number 18 shirt at Deepdale and will be aiming to improve on his current career stats of five goals in 24 appearances.
Preston currently lie 19th in the Championship and Fergie Jr will be hoping the acquisition of the young forward will help them escape the threat of relegation and work their way up the table.
Ferguson has managed to convince his father Sir Alex to lend his new side the youngster, whose pace will add something different up front compared to fellow forwards Chris Brown, Jon Parkin and Neil Mellor.
