Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet revealed he and Juande Ramos could not fault the attitude of their players, despite seeing his side slip to their third defeat in four games.
Aston Villa beat Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane last night to leave the home team rock bottom of the Premier League table.
"We came here to try and put in a good performance. We started quite brightly but they scored with their first shot and of course we felt it a little bit," Poyet said.
"Afterwards, we tried hard. We couldn't fault the players attitude. They tried all the time to go forward, maybe sometimes a little bit quick.
"The game became too open. I don't think it was the kind of game we were ready to play. There were too many chances and of course it was quite dangerous and unfortunately it wasn't to be."
Villa manager Martin O'Neill paid tribute to his side after seeing them record their first away win of the season. "I though they were sensational," O'Neill said.
"Our first-half performance was unbelievable. We can attack. We have the capability of scoring goals and we're a delight to each when we play like that.
"In the second-half we got a little bit tired. But we deserved to win. I though we were exceptional and there was some exceptional performances.
O'Neill also paid tribute to goalscorer Ashley Young. "I think that Ashley is well worth a place in the England squad," O'Neill said.
"But it will come. He is just brilliant, really brilliant."
