Portsmouth have made a bid of £3 million for Egyptian striker Amr Zaki, reports suggest.
The 26-year-old is currently playing in Egypt with Cairo's Zamalek after spending last season on loan at Wigan.
He made an instant impact at the JJB Stadium, scoring eight goals in his first ten games.
However his goals dried up in the second half of the season and the then Wigan manager Steve Bruce labelled the player "the most unprofessional I have worked with" after he returned late from international duty on four successive occasions.
Portsmouth manager Paul Hart is looking to strengthen his squad after a turbulent summer on the south coast.
They have sold a number of high-profile first-team players, including Peter Crouch and Sylvain Distin.
However with Sulaiman al-Fahim now confirmed as the club's new owner, Hart has been given funds to bring players to Fratton Park.
Having signed Michael Brown from Wigan and Tommy Smith from Watford, Hart will be hoping Zaki can add more firepower to his frontline, which has scored only one goal in their opening three games in the Premier League.
