Australian captain Ricky Ponting crowned a trophy-laden year with the personal addition of the ICC's cricketer of the year award.
"To win the cricketer of the year award for a second time is special," Ponting said.
"It's the sort of thing you can look back on at the end of your playing career and be very proud of - you must have done something right to win that award twice."
After steering his side to Champions Trophy, Cricket World Cup and Ashes triumphs Ponting also picked up the captain of the year prize.
The only highlight for England in an otherwise barren night was the selection of Kevin Pietersen in both the one-day and Test teams of the year with Michael Vaughan also earning a place in the latter line-up.
Pietersen was among the other nominees for the most prestigious cricketer of the year accolade and his disappointment was compounded as Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf beat him in the Test player of the year category.
Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara missed out on the emerging player of the year award to Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait, while England's women's international Claire Taylor was denied by India's Jhulan Goswani.
