Portsmouth are set to discuss personal terms with Jermaine Pennant after having an undisclosed bid for the player accepted by Liverpool.
The winger, who was rumoured to be on the verge of joining Real Madrid in one of the more outlandish transfer rumours earlier this month, is ready to talk to Pompey "over the next few days" about contract terms.
Since moving to Merseyside from Birmingham City for a reported £6.7 million in July 2006, Pennant has made 81 appearances, including a role in the Reds' Champions League final defeat to AC Milan in May 2007.
However, over the past year Pennant has fallen out of favour with manager Rafa Benitez and has been little more than a bit-part player this season.
Pennant began his career with hometown club Notts County before joining Arsenal for £2 million as a 15-year-old.
After a troubled time in north London, during which he had some personal problems and failed to break into the first team under Arsene Wenger, the midfielder spent time on loan at Watford and Leeds United before signing for Birmingham in 2005.
