The Prime Minister Gordon Brown has two minor tears in his retina, Downing Street has said.
Reports claim Mr Brown will not be undergoing further operations, and there is no deterioration in his sight.
The PM lost the sight in his left eye in a rugby accident as a teenager.
A spokesman for Number 10 told the BBC Mr Brown had an annual eye check in the summer which was fine, and later had his retina examined. Surgeons found that the retina had two minor tears, but there was no deterioration in his sight. Another check-up at Moorfield's Eye Hospital on Friday found no change.
Speculation over Mr Brown's health has been rife in recent weeks. Ahead of the Labour party conference he was forced to defend his health while being questioned on the Andrew Marr show.
