Greenpeace campaigners have climbed on top of a British Airways plane at Heathrow airport.
The protestors breached security to unveil banners on the plane after it landed on a flight from Manchester this morning.
A banner reading "Climate Emergency No Third Runway" was placed over the plane's tailfin at around 09:45 GMT.
Two men and two women are understood to have crossed the tarmac at Heathrow after the passengers on the flight had disembarked and moved into the airport.
One of the protestors told the BBC: "Climate change can be beaten but not by almost doubling the size of the world's biggest airport.
"We are here to draw a line in the sand and tell Gordon Brown his new runway must not and will not be built."
A government consultation on plans to build a new runway at the London airport will close on Wednesday.
The plans have received considerable opposition from environmental campaign groups who suggest the airport is responsible for a growing level of greenhouse gas emission in the UK.
BAA criticised the actions of the protestors today, saying the demonstration had been "unlawful and irresponsible". A full investigation into the security breach will now be launched.
