Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death near Crystal Palace's stadium following the club's FA Cup match against Aston Villa.
A statement from Metropolitan police confirmed officers were called to the Whitehorse Lane area in South Norwood, south east London, around 20:20 GMT on Sunday night.
The victim was discovered suffering from serious injuries and at approximately 21:00 GMT he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier in the day at Selhurst Park, Palace and Villa had played out a 2-2 draw, but no connection between the match and the stabbing has been established so far.
Police confirmed the man had been fatally stabbed with a post-mortem due to be held in due course.
While formal identification has yet to take place police claim they are confident the victim is Mark Corcoran, 26, from Croydon. His next of kin have been informed.
"It appears that Mr Corcoran was stabbed before staggering into a shop on Whitehorse Lane - near Selhurst Park football stadium and asking for help," a statement declared.
Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said: "We know that Mr Corcoran attended a wedding on Valentine's Day and we are appealing for anyone who has knowledge of his attendance at this wedding or his movements throughout the day to come forward.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Crystal Palace football ground, particularly after 19:30 GMT, and who may have seen or heard anything."
Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to contact police on 020 8721 4961 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
