Police in Japan are reported to have arrested a man suspected of killing British teacher Lindsay Ann Hawker.
Ms Hawker, 22, went missing in March 2007 while working as an English teacher in Ichikawa, east of Tokyo.
Her body was eventually found in a bath tub full of sand at the flat of Tatsuya Ichihashi, who she had been given lessons to at a nearby coffee shop.
On Tuesday reports claimed Japanese police had apprehended the 30-year-old, in Osaka.
Prior to the arrest police had released an image of what Mr Ichihashi, the only suspect in the case, may now look like if his appearance had been altered by plastic surgery.
Earlier today his mother made an emotional televised appeal for her fugitive son to turn himself into the police.
Ms Hawker's family had launched a series of high-profile campaigns calling for people who knew where the 30-year-old may be hiding to come forward, even travelling to Japan and visiting his apartment to raise awareness of their daughter's death.
