Iranian police have clashed with opposition supporters participating in an annual rally in Tehran, reports claim.
Demonstrators are marking the anniversary of the killing of three students in 1953.
The Iranian authorities have banned foreign media from covering the event following the violence which broke out after the disputed presidential elections in June.
Supporters of the opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi have taken to using officially sanctioned protests to voice their displeasure at the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Reuters news agency reported this morning some of the protestors have clashed with security forces.
Eyewitnesses are quoted as saying police have used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowds in the capital Tehran.
Earlier, hundreds of police officers are said to have surrounded Tehran University in an attempt to prevent protests.
December 7th is 'Students' Day' when universities mark the deaths of three students by security forces under the previous western-backed regime.
