Roman Polanski has been moved from his Winterthur jail to an undisclosed location for "security reasons", Swiss authorities said on Thursday.
The Oscar-winning director is due to be placed under house arrest on Friday after being granted $4.5 billion bail.
He has been held since September when he was arrested as he arrived in Zurich to pick up a lifetime achievement award.
Switzerland is still deciding whether to extradite the 76-year-old so he can be sentenced for pleading to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
Polanski has lived in France, which does not have an extradition treaty with the US, since 1978 when he fled before he could be sentenced.
