Birmingham City hero Kevin Phillips admitted he was just 'happy to be on the pitch' after his two goals gave Birmingham a 2- 1 win over Wolves.
Wolves looked to be on course for victory, but Phillips struck twice in the final 11 minutes to continue his side's impressive season, but he revealed he was just happy to be playing a part on the pitch.
Phillips said: "After not getting much game time, it was just nice to get on the pitch.
"I knew at the start of the season that I would have to be patient before I got my chance."
The forward also revealed that a chat with manager Alex McLeish had given him a boost going into the final few months of the season.
"After not buying a striker in the transfer window, the gaffer said I would get my chance.
"He said it would be disrespectful to me if I didn't get the chance to show what I can do and he gave it me today and fortunately, I got on the score sheet."
The 36-year-old also acknowledged that he was not far away from retirement, but he still had a strong desire to remain playing at the highest level.
"When you are not playing so much, you have to remain mentally strong.
"At 36, I'm not too far away from retiring, so I want to play at the highest level for as long as I can."
