Two-goal hero Peter Crouch hoped he had done enough to warrant a starting place at the World Cup finals following his virtuoso appearance from the substitute bench against Egypt at Wembley.
Crouch came on for Jermain Defoe at the start of the second-half to turn the game on its head with two goals in 20 minutes. Crouch scored following crosses from the wide areas from Gareth Barry and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The Tottenham striker has now scored 20 international goals in under 40 caps and will hope to be included from the start when England kick-off their World Cup campaign in June.
He said: "Anyone who plays for England especially in a World Cup year is going to feel some sort of pressure especially when playing at home but I just try and do my best. It's up to the manager if I start ,all I can do is give him something to think about."
Meanwhile captain Steven Gerrard was full of praise for England's opponents who made life difficult for the home side for large periods of the first half
But Gerrard thought that England showed what they were capable of in the second-half and ran out deserved winners.
He said: "You have to give credit to Egypt, they played very well the first half and the difference was that we never converted the chances we had. But we showed great character to come back in the second half and go on and win it.
"We needed to press better in the second-half as Egypt were passing it around us. But we did that much better in the second-half and were a lot more dangerous going forward."
Gerrard also had words for under pressure John Terry confirming that the former captain's solid performance showed that he still had the necessary determination to succeed.
"He was superb; he handled everything really well and showed he is a fantastic leader and player."
