Former governor of Alaska and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has claimed running for the 2012 US presidency is currently not on her agenda.
Appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show to promote her new autobiography, Mrs Palin spoke on a range of issues from the treatment she received by John McCain's aides to her daughter Bristol's pregnancy.
At times striking a fairly defensive tone she criticised Steve Schmidt, a senior advisor to Senator McCain, who she states in her book advised her to eat carbohydrates thinking she was on the Atkin's Diet.
"Of all the things we could worry about when the McCain numbers were tanking and President Obama's numbers were soaring... I don't think we should have been worrying about what I eat," she told Oprah.
She also expressed her frustration at being accused of going off message and 'rogue' during the campaign trail as Mr Obama began to pull ahead in the polls.
Mrs Palin was seen as a hugely divisive figure during the presidential campaign, hailed as the queen of the Republican Party in some corners and completely ridiculed for some of her views and lack of experience, in others.
During the interview with Oprah the former Alaskan governor distanced herself from talk about running for the White House again in 2012.
Asked if she was considered going forward for the Republican nomination, she said: "I don't know what I'm going to be doing in 2012. [Running for president is] not on my radar screen right now."
Mrs Palin also expressed her displeasure with the actions of Levi Johnson, the father of her daughter Bristol's son.
Mr Johnson who fathered the child out of wedlock has since distanced himself from the family and is now to model for Playgirl magazine.
She said she found "a bit heartbreaking to see the road that he is on right now".
Mrs Palin's book, "Going Rogue: An American Life", goes on sale today but is already a best-seller through online and advance orders.
