Birmingham City have described reports claiming the kidnapped brother of midfielder Wilson Palacios has been released as "premature".
Edwin Palacios, 15, was abducted in Honduras a fortnight ago. Reports yesterday claimed the schoolboy had been released by his captors.
The Blues insist Edwin is still missing but the situation is close to being resolved.
"Further to earlier reports, Birmingham City FC now understands that news of the release of Wilson Palacios' kidnapped brother are premature," a Blues statement said.
"The club was told in good faith on Thursday, by both the player himself and his agent, that Wilson's 15-year-old brother Edwin had been released by his kidnappers.
"It now appears that, although the situation is close to being resolved, Wilson and his agent had been incorrectly informed themselves.
"Wilson is currently in Miami with the Honduras national side but, because of the time difference, the club has not yet been able to fully clarify the situation."
Wilson Palacios played in the Midlands derby against Aston Villa last Sunday despite his brother's terrifying ordeal.
Palacios, 23, was left out of the previous week's game with Everton.
The Honduran arrived on loan in August after a glowing recommendation from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who gave the midfielder a trial in the summer.
