Newcastle striker Michael Owen is expected to make his comeback from injury in the Premier League clash against Hull City on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has been out of action for six weeks after suffering an ankle ligament injury in the match against Manchester City. Owen has been back in training for almost two weeks now and is primed to return and help his side in their fight against relegation.
The Magpies have more good news on the injury front with caretaker manager Chris Hughton revealing Damien Duff and Nicky Butt could also play some part against Hull.
"Michael, Nicky and Damien are all in the squad but we haven't decided what part they play," said Hughton.
"Michael will be involved. He has had a good week-and-a-half's training under his belt. It's a massive bonus to have him back.
"He has trained very, very well and it is a massive bonus to have him back. We will wait until nearer the game before deciding if he starts or not.
"But it's important that he stays fit because he will be a huge player for us this season. Not only is he the club captain, he's a terrific character and is very popular around the place."
Newcastle will be glad to have three of their key players back as they only sit above the relegation zone on goal difference. They have also played a game more than Portsmouth who are in the 18th place in the Premier League.
