Former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has expressed regret over making insulting remarks about Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle in a US interview.
The 57-year-old had compared Scottish singer Boyle to a "hairy a**ehole" and joked that God had hit the I Dreamed A Dream star with "the f*****g ugly stick".
Osbourne has since issued an apology for her comments on US radio presenters Opie and Anthony's talkshow, saying: "Susan Boyle is a lovely gracious woman and I took advantage of that by poking fun at her.
"I would never want to be responsible for hurting Susan and I must apologise for getting a cheap laugh at her expense," she wrote on her page on microblogging site Twitter.
Forty-eight-year-old Boyle shot to global fame when her first Britain's Got Talent audition became an online sensation.
Though she eventually finished second on the ITV1 show to dance troupe Diversity, Boyle remains in demand on both sides of the Atlantic and her debut album I Dreamed A Dream is released later this month.
