Lleyton Hewitt has brushed aside Carlos Moya with an imperious 6-2 6-4 win to line up a semi-final clash with world number one Roger Federer at the Cincinnati Masters.
The Australian, a former leader of the men's rankings himself, caught Moya cold with a powerful start to the match and quickly rattled off a 6-2 win in the first.
He maintained his form into the second and was 3-0 up before being forced to call for the trainer for treatment on a blistered toe.
The distraction briefly looked like it might have derailed his procession to the last four as Moya broke back, but Hewitt recaptured his concentration and served out for the match.
"I am playing well at the moment. I thought my court coverage was exceptional today," he said.
"But it's hard to close him out, he's such a strong player, so I am really happy to win in straight sets."
Federer made harder work of dismissing Spain's Nicolas Almagro in his quarter-final, but recovered from dropping his first set of the week to win through 6-3 2-6 6-2.
The second semi-final will be contested by the respective winners of the matches between James Blake and fellow American Sam Querry and Nikolay Davydenko and Spain's David Ferrer.
