A gang responsible for robberies in which more than £1 million worth of money and jewellery were stolen have been sentenced to over 60 years in prison today.
The gang, who were recruited and led by Dean Oxley, 30, targeted jewellers and cash-in-transit guards across London.
They were sentenced at Kingston crown court today.
The Metropolitan police described Oxley as a "Fagin-type character" who recruited young members into the gang to commit the robberies but did not participate in the actual offences, instead watching his accomplices from nearby.
A statement from the Met today said the gang stole £1,025,900 worth of property and officers have so far recovered £6,000 in cash and £100,000 in watches.
Detective Sergeant Steve Kiely, of the Met's Flying Squad, said: "Dean Oxley was a prominent and influential figure within south London organised crime circles. He controlled a violent gang of young men, directing them to commit high value commercial robberies across the capital.
"He regarded himself as untouchable remaining at arms length from any robbery. It has taken a lengthy and complex investigation by the Flying Squad to prove his involvement in what was a widescale conspiracy. Today's sentences reflect how the courts and police view organised crime, recognising the varied roles held within a criminal network."
Oxley was sentenced to 12 years in prison today alongside Andel Warson and Marvin Samuels, who were sentenced to six-and-a-half years, and Damian Gordon received six years.
Eight other members of the gang previously pleaded guilty, including: Jason Brown, Craig Frawley, Gary Bailey, Jonathan Odokama, Nathan Davis, Daniel Joseph, Oliver Gouldbourne and Ayoade Adeshina.
