US president Barack Obama has arrived in Ghana on his first visit to sub-Saharan Africa.
The US head of state, who previously spoke on relations between the West and the Islamic world in a speech in Egypt, has addressed the country's parliament about the importance of good governance for the continent's prosperity.
During the visit, Mr Obama will also hold talks with the country's leader John Atta Mills and he and his wife are also expected to visit the country's historic slave castle.
In comments ahead of his visit to the country, Mr Obama said: "Part of the reason that we're travelling to Ghana is because you've got there a functioning democracy, a president who's serious about reducing corruption and you've seen significant economic growth."
Last week at the G8 meeting in Italy, the president and other world leaders agreed on a $20 billion (£12 billion) fund to ensure food security in the continent.
