Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins are tied at 4-4 after the first session of their snooker World Championship quarter-final.
The Scot claimed the first frame with a break of 91 but the Rocket responded with a break of 89 in a game that delivered a high calibre of play throughout.
Higgins took the next two frames to lead at the interval but again O'Sullivan bounced back, capturing the next three frames to regain the advantage.
But the resilient Scot then made the 350th century break of his career with a 110 clearance before O'Sullivan took the final frame of the session to make it 4-4 at the end of the first day.
In another of the day's quarter-finals Matthew Stevens leads former champion Shaun Murphy 11-5. They began the second session locked at 4-4 but the Welshman dominated proceedings after that.
The match went to 5-5 before Stevens began edging ahead in some scrappy frames but breaks of 52, 57 and 81 helped him extend his lead and take a six-frame advantage overnight.
Steven Maguire leads Anthony Hamilton 9-7 after two sessions of their quarter-final. The Scot took the first session 5-3 and was building a useful lead before Hamilton claimed the final frame of the night to stay within touching distance of his opponent.
Elsewhere Mark Selby claimed a 5-3 lead over Ali Carter in the final quarter-final match up. With the match level at 3-3 Selby made a break of 121 and was also able to take the final frame of the session to claim a slender early advantage.
