Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill could not hide his joy after watching his side shock Liverpool at Anfield.
O'Neill's side ran out 3-1 victors in a display of great tenacity and determination.
"I'm delighted with the performance," said O'Neill.
"I couldn't be more pleased. I thought they put absolutely everything into it in terms of effort, skill and ability. To come here and win against one of three championship favourites was a terrific effort."
O'Neill saved special praise for goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who put in a man of the match performance:
"Brad Friedel just threw back the years again. He was fantastic. To come back to Anfield and play like that, he'll be delighted," he added.
Friedel himself was quick to point out how important it was for Villa to record their first win of the season.
"We've been getting a few bullets in the press for our performances recently. [This win] was the right time for us," said the American keeper.
"When you write off athletes in any sport, top performers will eventually come good. We've got a lot of talent in our dressing room and we're looking forward to the season."
