An overjoyed Brian O'Driscoll admitted he had fulfilled a dream of his by lifting the Heineken Cup with Leinster.
O'Driscoll has spent a decade playing for Leinster, but while he has enjoyed triumph with both Ireland and the British and Irish Lions, his time at Leinster has been less successful.
The 30-year-old has watched the other Irish provinces like Munster and Ulster lift the most prestigious trophy in club rugby, but today it was the turn of his side to win the trophy for the first time.
"This [winning the Heineken Cup] was a goal at the start of my career and I couldn't have done it with a better bunch of guys," O'Driscoll told Sky Sports.
"It feels great. I've played for this team for ten years and loved every minute of playing for them and it was worth the wait.
"I just felt we had great resilience; we backed our defence all year. We've been poor in attack at times but got it together over the last couple of months."
It has been a brilliant season so far for O'Driscoll, who also led Ireland to the Six Nations Grand Slam. He will now look to cap off a memorable season by helping the Lions to victory over South Africa.
O'Driscoll gave Lions coach Ian McGeechan a fright when he went down on his right shoulder and looked to have injured it. But the centre insisted he was fine and will be fit to fly out with the squad to South Africa tomorrow.
