Sunderland manager Roy Keane has bolstered his strikeforce with the capture of Roy O'Donovan from Cork City today.
The 22-year-old has joined the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year contract.
O'Donovan revealed that fellow Irishman Keane played a big part in him coming to the Stadium of Light.
"I had a choice between Fulham and Sunderland but when I spoke to the gaffer [Roy Keane] my mind was made up," said O'Donovan.
The Ireland B international had a spell at Coventry City two seasons ago but admits playing in the Premiership will be a much bigger challenge.
He said: "This is a big challenge for me and when the chance came about, I didn't think twice.
"I had a knack for scoring goals in Ireland and I have to continue that at Sunderland."
O'Donovan is Sunderland's eighth signing of the summer and follows goalkeeper Craig Gordon who signed for £9 million from Hearts on Wednesday.
Keane did unbelievably well to gain promotion from the Championship with Sunderland last year, but he knows that his second season as a manager will be a lot tougher.
The former Manchester United skipper has had the backing of chairman Niall Quinn and bolstered his squad with the signings of exciting players such as Michael Chopra, Kieran Richardson and Dickson Etuhu.
They kick off the new Premiership season with a home clash against Tottenham on Saturday.
