David Nugent has vowed to 'prove Portsmouth wrong' after his two second-half goals gave Burnley a 3-1 win over Sunderland.
Nugent, on loan from Portsmouth until January, came on as a substitute after goals from Burnley's Graham Alexander and Sunderland's Darren Bent saw the sides locked at 1-1.
And the former Preston forward said he is happy to have got his Burnley career off to a storming start.
"It was a great home start for me. I haven't really got a left foot but I caught that second goal sweet," he said.
"I feel I have a point to prove here and want to get some games under my belt. I want to show Portsmouth what they are missing."
Burnley manager Owen Coyle echoed Nugent's comments, and praised the striker for his performance.
Coyle said: "I like working with players that have a point to prove and that are motivated to play.
"He has looked sharp in training, but I asked him to be patient because of how well [Martin] Paterson and [Steven] Fletcher have been doing.
"However, David has a key role to play and he lead the line well when he came on."
