North Korean may resume six-party international talks on its nuclear weapons programme, state media has reported.

Talks will first be held with the US, reports say, after the state abandoned talks in April saying it would "never again take part in such talks".

However, a visit to Pyongyang by Wen Jiabao, the Chinese prime minister, seems to have persuaded North Korea to change their tact. The US has said they are eager to take part in the talks.

Xinhua, the Chinese government news agency, said a "vital consensus" had been reached on the issue.

The six-party talks constitute delegates from the two Koreas, China, the US, Russia and Japan.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il reportedly told Mr Wen that Pyongyang was "willing to attend multilateral talks, including the six-party talks, depending on the progress in its talks with the United States," according to China's Xinhua news agency.
