Nine people were killed and dozens injured when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in a busy commercial district in Tel Aviv earlier today, according to police.
The bomb exploded near Tel Aviv's central bus station in the Neve Shaanan neighbourhood.
Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but police have not yet confirmed this.
Magen David Adom ambulance service said the number of casualties currently stands at 50.
The attack occurred as acting Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert attempts to form a coalition government.
Three weeks ago the Islamic militant group Hamas took control of the Palestinian government but a senior member of the Fatah movement today accused the group of being unwilling to form a national coalition government.
