Newcastle boss Sam Allarydce has revealed the club will meet with Michael Owen at the end of the season to find out if his long-term future is with the north-east club.
Owen has been the subject of constant transfer speculation with some reports suggesting that he has a £6 million get-out-clause in his contract. Only this week he was linked with a move to Manchester City and reunite with his former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.
"There is no clause in Michael Owen's contract. There's no way Michael can leave unless we want him to," said Allardyce.
"Saying that, if Michael was as determined as some players are when they decide they want to go, that would be a different story.
"But at the moment, we're hoping Michael stays fit and plays continuously for Newcastle from now until the end of the season.
"If he does that, we can have a good look at the situation then," added Allardyce, whose team suffered a 2-1 loss away to Reading today.
Newcastle fans have yet to see the best of Owen as the striker has only started 17 games since his £16 million move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2005.
Owen missed much of his first season with the club due to a metatarsal injury and missed the whole of last season after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury at the World Cup in Germany.
