Newcastle have been dumped out of the FA Cup after losing 5-1 to Birmingham City in their third round replay at St James' Park.
Birmingham were full value for their win having dominated the majority of the game against an inexperienced Magpies line-up.
Gary McSheffrey gave the Blues an early lead in the fifth minute when he drilled the ball past Shay Given's left hand. That seemed to give the visitors confidence and they continued to pressure the Newcastle defence.
After a series of shots on goal they eventually got a deserved second after Nolberto Solano scored an own goal just before half-time. Cameron Jerome crossed and the Peruvian slid in to put it past Given.
The Magpies were given a lift early in the second-half when James Milner pulled a goal back; the 21-year-old sending a 35-yard effort flying into the top-left corner of the goal.
However their hope was short lived. Moments later Steven Taylor was dismissed for a professional foul on the edge of the area.
From the resulting free kick Peter Ramage blocked Sebastian Larsson's shot and Bruno N'Gotty followed up from 18 yards out to restore the away side's lead.
In the final ten minutes Birmingham ran riot. Larsson was played in by Jerome and slotted past Given from the edge of the box to make it 4-1.
DJ Campbell then added to the Magpies misery when he made it 5-1 in the 88th minute in front of a half empty St James' Park.
Birmingham will now face Reading at St Andrews in the fourth round.
