Leicester triumphed 12-13 over Saracens at Vicarage Road to give them a good chance of a home draw in the Premiership semi-finals.
The Tigers are now five points clear of Wasps in second, though the London side have a game in hand.
Leicester had a host of try-scoring opportunities and had to settle for just one by in-form winger Tom Varndell.
The 19-year-old grabbed his 13th Premiership try of the season from Andy Goode's cross-kick after half an hour.
Goode converted and added two penalties in the second half, while Glen Jackson kicked four penalties for Sarries.
The Kiwi fly-half kicked the home side into a 9-0 lead as he punished Leicester's indiscipline in the early stages.
Saracens still held a 9-7 advantage at half-time, after Jackson missed a drop goal attempt, but two Goode penalties in the second half were enough for the Tigers, who could not cross the try line.
In the evening's other game, England fly half Charlie Hodgson scored 23 points as Sale Sharks beat Bath 38-12 to seal their dominance at the top of the Guinness Premiership.
Hodgson kicked four penalties, three conversions and a try, as Chris Mayor, Chris Jones and Mark Cueto ran in tries in the last quarter of the game.
James Hudson and Chris Malone scored tries for Bath, but it was not enough to stop rampant Sale going six points clear at the top of the table.
