Multiple Grammy winners U2 are "delighted and humbled" to be one of the headliners for next year's Glastonbury, says frontman Bono.
The Irish band will headline the Somerset festival on Friday June 25th 2010, with the iconic event celebrating its 40th anniversary.
While rock legend David Bowie has ruled himself out of taking to the Pyramid Stage, British trio Muse have said it is likely they will appear.
Speaking at the launch of an anti-Aids/HIV campaign in London on Monday, U2 lead singer Bono said of the band's headlining slot: "Everyone in the band is very excited about it."
He added: "We'll certainly be well-rehearsed, we'll be coming straight from the tour."
U2's Glastonbury shows comes amid a North American leg of their 360 Degrees world tour next year and the quartet will make a flying visit to the UK to perform at Worthy Farm in Pilton.
Bono's comments on Monday came as he launched the 'Lace Up. Save Lives' campaign, an initiative between Nike and the (RED) brand created by the rock singer.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is also backing the campaign, which encourages people to buy red boot laces to help funding for Aids medication and education efforts in Africa.
