Andy Murray has overcome Tim Henman for the second time in a week after beating his British rival 4-6 6-4 7-5 in the opening round of the Cincinnati Masters.
The 19-year-old Scot beat Henman on his way to the semi-finals of the Toronto Masters last week, and now holds a 3-0 career record over the former British number one.
But the present incumbent of that accolade struggled in the first set against Henman's acute serving and crisp volleys, but recovered to take the second with a single break of serve.
In an error-strewn decider the set went to 5-5 before Murray gained the crucial break to set up a second-round match against either world number one Roger Federer or Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan.
Speaking after today's latest victory achieved under new coach Brad Gilbert, Murray said that Henman's own serve and volley game had ultimately played to his advantage.
"Tim likes to come into the net and my passing shots are the best part of my game," he said.
"Physically I'm starting to get a bit tired. It was an early start for me and I'd asked to play later in the day. But this is a massive series and maybe now I've got a chance to play against Roger Federer," Murray added.
