Britain has its first Wimbledon champion in 20 years after Jamie Murray and Jelena Jankovic beat Jonas Bjorkman and Alicia Molik 6-4 3-6 6-1 to win the mixed doubles title.
Murray beats his brother Andy to a grand slam after triumphing on centre court in three sets.
The 21-year-old Scot follows in the footsteps of British pair Jeremy Bates and Jo Durie, who won the mixed doubles title in 1987.
After a miserable fortnight for the home favourites, the crowd had something to celebrate in the final match of the tournament.
But Murray got off to the worst possible start after being broken in his first service game.
Murray and Jankovic hit back straight away and then broke doubles-specialist Bjorkman in game nine on their way to taking the first set.
Bjorkman and Australian Molik, the fifth seeds, dominated the second set and raced into a 4-1 lead before forcing a decider.
But 35-year-old Bjorkman was broken to love in game two while Murray and Jankovic broke again in game to six to move closer to victory.
Jankovic served out to clinch victory for the pair in their first tournament together.
Murray and Jankovic had beaten the third, ninth, and 14th seeds on their way to the final.
