Andy Murray cruised through to the fourth round in Indian Wells with a commanding 6-3 6-2 win over Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu.
The British number one, who is returning after two weeks out with a fever, said after his win over Albert Montanes on Saturday, that he doesn't expect to make the latter stages of the tournament, but if he continues to perform like he did today then he will once again be one of the favourites to win.
Murray got off to the perfect start as a nervous Mathieu gifted the Scot a break in the first game with a couple of unforced errors. Murray then saved 0-30 on his serve to take a 2-0 lead.
But the 21-year-old had an uncharacteristic poor service game at 3-2 and was broken to love. Mathieu though was unable to take advantage of the break-back and Murray was the dominant man from the back of the court and took the next three games to seal the opening set.
The second set was much easier for Murray as a delightful lob at 2-1 up saw the Scot break Mathieu and take a 3-1 lead.
Murray was forced to save three break points at 4-2, but managed to hold on and then took the match as a below-par Mathieu lost his serve in the last game of them match.
