Andy Murray revealed that he feels under no pressure despite being on the brink of qualifying for the prestigious season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.
The British number one comfortably beat Fabrice Santoro 6-4 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters. He will face home favourite Richard Gasquet in the next round and the winner of that match would be almost certain of reaching Shanghai.
But the race to reach Shanghai is getting ever more complicated with players like Mikhail Youzhny, Tommy Haas, and Marcos Baghdatis still in contention to overtake Murray.
"The pressure is actually getting less," Murray said. "Each day guys are going to drop out [of the race] and you've just got to keep winning.
"I don't feel like there's as much pressure on me as a lot of the guys and I'll just go into my match tomorrow and give it my best."
It has been a remarkable late season surge by Murray after he missed three months of the season due to a wrist injury. He won the St Petersburg Open last week and the Scot knows one more good performance against Gasquet could see him take on the world's best in Shanghai.
"I know that I need to win that match if I want to go to Shanghai," said Murray. "If I lose, I pretty much think the winner of the next match will probably go."
The Masters Cup is the biggest tournament outside the grand slams with the top eight players in the world battling it out to lift the final trophy of the season.
