Colin Montgomerie has decided not to play in this week's BellSouth Classic in Atlanta due to loss of form.
The Scot has missed the cut in the last four tournaments he has played and has decided to have a break to regroup before the Masters begins at Augusta next week.
The run is the worse of his career and his manager said that he is not happy with his game at the moment.
"He does not feel he's playing well enough and he just wants to work on his game in private," Guy Kinnings said.
The eight-time European order of merit winner has said that he will stay in the States ahead of the first major of the year and has apologised for pulling out.
His loss of form has surprised many in golf and reigning US PGA champion Phil Mickelson said last week that he thought Montgomerie would win his first major this year.
The American, however, is also confident regarding his own form ahead of the Masters and is hoping to regain the title he won in 2004.
"My game feels like it's coming around so hopefully I'll have a good event and get momentum for Augusta," Mickelson said.
Montgomerie is not the only player who won't appear in Atlanta this week as Tiger Woods has also said he will rest ahead of the Masters.
