Olympiacos held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw in a largely uneventful match at the Athens ground in the first leg of their Champions league tie.
The Blues had few chances throughout the 90 minutes, with Frank Lampard, John Terry and Nicolas Anelka all staying on the bench to rest before the teams Carling Cup final on Sunday.
Chelsea's best chance fell to Salomon Kalou at the end of the match with a tame shot at the keeper.
The team started well with a shot on goal just 31 seconds into the match from Michael Essien, which subsequently went wide.
A first half shot from Ieroklis Stoltidis left the ball just inches away from the corner following his header.
The Greek team continued to provide opportunities in the second half with Luciano Galletti volleying the shot wide.
After the half-time break Chelsea's Ashley Cole and Joe Cole both showed more presence than previously, but this still failed to materialise in any rewards.
The Blues will hope to give a much better performance at home in two weeks time.
