Everton assistant manager Sean Irvine has insisted that the club are not considering selling striker James McFadden in January.
The Scotland international has been linked with a return to his homeland, with Celtic reported to be interested in the former Motherwell man.
"There was speculation recently about Andrew Johnson and he signed a new contract," said Irvine. "I believe there is a bit of speculation with Faddy (McFadden) now.
"But, as I said with Andy, we have no plans to sell him or James McFadden. We have been patiently building a squad."
McFadden has played a key part in Scotland's surge towards Euro 2008 qualification, scoring in the crucial away win against France. But he has fallen behind the pecking order at Everton with the arrival of Ayegbeni Yakubu and the emergence of Victor Anichebe.
"There will be people who look at the number of strikers we have got and say that perhaps we have too many," said Irvine.
"But we have not had too many of them fit all at once so far this season and we hope that we will soon have them all to choose from.
"Sometimes we will play with one striker and sometimes with two strikers and it is up to the ones that are in possession at that time to perform well and to score the goals that will keep them in the team."
McFadden's attention at the moment is fully on Scotland and their Euro 2008 eliminator against Italy on Saturday. Whichever team wins will qualify for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
