Leeds head coach Brian McClennan has praised his side's "mental toughness" following their Grand Final victory.
The Rhinos had to play a game more than opponents St Helens in order to reach the showpiece event at Old Trafford after being comprehensively beaten at Knowsley Road two weeks earlier.
And the 38-10 loss had meant few people fancied Leeds' chances to retain the Super League crown, despite finishing just one point behind Saints in the table.
But after earning their place in the final with a victory over Wigan, McClennan's side became only the second to successfully defend the title in a repeat of last year's Grand Final.
Captain Kevin Sinfield was full of praise for the way the coach handled his players after the loss of a fortnight ago, stating: "There were some lads with their heads on the floor, completely shot.
"I know that's what he's paid to do but he's done a great job in turning it around and keeping a very special trophy at Headingley."
McClennan, however, was keen to attribute the victory to the players' reaction, explaining that bouncing back "can only be done if you've got some mental toughness there in the first place".
"I'm astounded at times at the toughness of these players," he said.
"We knew we had to roll our sleeves up tonight and we did. We're overwhelmed with joy because it was a huge challenge we faced."
