South African forward Benni McCarthy is hoping that he will finally get a chance to prove his worth on the Premiership stage as he nears completion on a move to Ewood Park.
A product of the fabled Ajax youth system, McCarthy has seen the interest of various English sides come to nothing in the past, but it seems that Blackburn Rovers will, this time, turn their interest into a decisive bid.
The 28-year-old was trailed last summer by a host of Premiership managers with West Ham, Bolton and Newcastle all joining Blackburn in a hunt for his signature.
"I am very happy, this is a chance for my dreams of playing in England to materialise," he told the Portuguese media as he departed the country.
Mark Hughes is set to make the Porto striker his third capture of the summer as he bolsters his attacking options in the wake of Craig Bellamy's departure to Liverpool.
Francis Jeffers and Jason Roberts have signed from Charlton and Wigan already, but McCarthy will be the most expensive recruit so far.
His higher price tag comes with good reason however - McCarthy has netted a record 28 times for his country.
