Floyd Mayweather Jr has urged his old nemesis Ricky Hatton to hang up his gloves after suffering the second defeat of his career.
Hatton was on the receiving end of a brutal second round knockout at the hands of Filipino great Manny Pacquiao and reports claim the Manchester boxer is contemplating retiring.
Former pound-for-pound best fighter in the world Mayweather, who is coming out of retirement to face Juan Manuel Marquez, revealed he felt Hatton should have retired when he knocked the Brit out in December 2007.
"My advice to Ricky Hatton is that his career is over, I think he should have stopped fighting after our fight," he told Sky Sports News. "He worked his whole life to get to that point, and he came up short.
"I don't think Ricky should fight again. I wouldn't fight him again, even at Wembley. It would be like picking on a guy that we call 'gun-shot, gun-shot'. Boxing is a brutal sport, it's like being a cop - one shot and it ends your whole career.
"Once you've been knocked out in the way he was by me, it's always in the back of your mind that it can happen again. His head won't be the same."
Mayweather advised Hatton to focus on his promotion company and develop the next generation of great British fighters.
