Felipe Massa's surgery was successful according to Ferrari.
The Brazilian had to be operated upon after he suffered a damaged skull, concussion and a cut to his forehead when a piece of debris hit his head during his final run of Q2 at the Hungaroring.
In a statement the Ferrari team said: "Felipe Massa has undergone surgery this afternoon at the AEK hospital in Budapest and the outcome of the procedure was positive. Now, Felipe will remain under observation in intensive care. "
Ferrari will release a further update on Massa's condition tomorrow morning.
