Manchester City ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against EB Streymurin in the first-leg of the first round of the Uefa Cup qualifying round.

The Premier League side were a class above their part-time Faroe Islands opponents and goals from Martin Petrov and Dietmar Hamann secured an away win which secured Mark Hughes his first competitive win as City manager.

Hughes took a full-strength team to the Faroe Islands and handed a debut to club record Brazilian signing Jo, while also playing the likes of Joe Hart, Micah Richards, and Michael Johnson.

City were in cruise control throughout the game and took the lead after only ten minutes. Darius Vassell crossed the ball across the penalty area and Johnson let the ball run through his legs to allow Petrov to finish clinically.

The highlight of the game came after 28 minutes when the game witnessed one of those spectacular strikes from former Germany star Hamann.

The veteran midfielder hadn't scored for 95 games, but he ended that duck in spectacular fashion. Hamann thundered in a shot which he connected perfectly with from a Petrov corner.

It was a quiet night for the 21-year-old Jo, the closest he came to a goal was when he headed a Petrov cross over the bar.

City created other good chances during the game, but they seemed content with the two goals they had scored and will now be confident of completing the job in the return leg at the City of Manchester Stadium.
