A man has been arrested after the body of a man was pulled out of the River Thames.
Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a man in his 20s was pulled out of the water near to Garnet Street in east London.
The arrested man has since been bailed.
Detectives say there may have been an altercation on the bank of the river between the victim and a group of people on Thursday night, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
It is thought the victim was near to the river with a 17-year-old girl, who suffered head injuries, prior to the incident. The dead man is yet to be named, but his family have been told of his death. A post-mortem is due to be held to determine his cause of death.
Police said they were called at 21:37 GMT on Thursday to reports that a man had fallen into the Thames. The London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, police and the Marine Policing Unit attended the scene.
Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command (East) are treating the death as suspicious and wish to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who might have information about what happened, via the incident room at Barking on 020 8345 3734.
