New Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster has revealed he wants to sign Chelsea star Michael Ballack.
Ballack, 30, snubbed Madrid to join the Blues last year on a free transfer.
But the German midfielder had a mixed season at Stamford Bridge and struggled to justify his reported wages of £130,000 a week.
Schuster, who replaced Fabio Capello at the Bernabeu, said he is keen on signing Ballack despite his high wages.
"With his class, he fits perfectly to Real Madrid," Schuster told German public television station ARD.
"I can very well imagine him playing for my team."
Ballack scored just four goals in 26 league appearances for Jose Mourinho's side last season.
He missed the end of the season through injury including the FA Cup final victory over Manchester United at Wembley.
The former Bayern Munich ace had an operation on his ankle in Germany this summer.
Mourinho was reportedly furious that Ballack went ahead with the surgery without asking the Blues for permission.
In comparison to previous seasons, Madrid have yet to make a big-name signing. They have so far signed Javier Saviola from rivals Barcelona and fullback Pepe from Porto.
The Spanish champions have been linked with AC Milan star Kaka and Arsenal youngster Cesc Fabregas this summer in their bid to bolster their midfield.
