Arsenal ace Freddie Ljungberg is facing a race against time to be fit for the Gunner's London derby with Watford on Saturday.
The 29-year-old picked up a calf injury in Sweden's Euro 2008 qualifier win over Spain on Saturday.
Ljungberg was substituted after 56 minutes of Saturday's match and had an MRI scan today.
He has already been ruled out of his country's qualifier against Scandinavian rivals Iceland on Wednesday in Reykjavik.
A statement on the Swedish Football Association's website read: "Ljungberg's injury was examined with a magnetic camera.
"The examination confirmed the injury was such that [his] playing in Wednesday's match against Iceland is ruled out."
Sweden coach Lars Lagerback said his team would try with cope with the midfielder's absence.
"Of course it's bad for us and sad for Fredrik," he said.
"We have alternatives in our squad but I will not go in to details about our team on Wednesday."
Saturday's win maintained Sweden's 100 per cent start to their qualifying campaign.
Ljungberg will travel to London to get treatment on the injury in a bid to be fit for the weekend's clash with the Premiership new boys at the Emirates stadium.
Arsenal have won their last five matches to recover from a below part start to their Premiership campaign.
