Struggling Leeds United have been given the green light to speak to Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet after agreeing a compensation package with Swindon.
The former Champions League semi-finalists had earlier failed to meet the demands of League Two side Swindon to speak to their manager and assistant.
A Leeds statement said: "Leeds United have agreed financial compensation with Swindon Town and have now been granted permission to discuss personal terms with boss Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet with a view to them filling the vacant managerial position at the club."
The Robins had released a statement on Monday confirming they had "reluctantly agreed" to allow Wise and Poyet to speak with Leeds chairman Ken Bates before withdrawing permission.
Clauses in both player-coaches' contracts, signed only in May this year, permit them to speak with potentially interested clubs from the Premiership and Coca-Cola Championship, a clause activated by Leeds' approach.
A deal is thought to be imminent as the outspoken Bates remains a close friend of Wise and Poyet, having worked with them for several seasons when in charge of the Blues.
Since succeeding Iffy Onuora in charge, Wise has enjoyed a fruitful time in charge of Swindon, winning nine of their 17 games in charge and leading them to third in the division.
Leeds languish one place off the bottom of the Championship and have lost their last three matches and conceded ten goals.
Meanwhile, caretaker manager John Carver has left the club after taking charge of the last five games since United sacked Kevin Blackwell last month.
